At Green Mountain Guns, we pride ourselves in our wide selection of both new and used firearms. We understand that in today’s economy, many of our customers to prefer to buy their guns used as opposed to brand new. Because gun safety is our #1 priority, we want to spread the word about what buyers should look for when shopping for a used revolver.
Check the Firing Pin
Start by taking a look at the revolver’s firing pin. If it’s in good shape, the firing pin should be smooth and completely rounded. If the firing pin appears to be jagged, sharp, or have any broken edges, then you’ll want to look elsewhere. Damaged firing pins should be seen as a major red flag. Of course, when you shop used revolvers at Green Mountain Guns, this isn’t a problem you need to worry about running into.
Inspect the Barrel/ Cylinder Gap
When buying a used revolver, it’s also important to make sure that this gap is no more than a very few thousandths of an inch. Any more than this is a sign that the revolver may have been fired excessively and may not shoot reliably or accurately.
Hammer “Push Off”
This a condition where the hammer of the revolver drops (or releases) without pulling the trigger. It is easily detected by cocking the hammer back and then pushing against it with your thumb. It should stay cocked back, and not release forward until the trigger is pulled. This is an unsafe condition that is caused by wear or altering the inner workings of the revolver.
When it comes to buying a used revolver, there’s a lot you need to be careful about as a buyer. Here at Green Mountain Guns, we’ve got you covered with the best deals around, an expert sales staff and a huge selection of used guns. Come see for yourself today!
